Looking For People Interested inTrekking to Machu Picchu Carrying Our Own Gear in May

I’m looking for a few people to do a 6 day/5 night trek to Machu Picchu in late May. We’ll be carrying our own gear (about 35 lbs) for 6 days over altitude of up to 15,000’. Needless to say, I’m looking for very fit people who like to rough it.

I have a great tour guide lined up with an itinerary. I’ve arranged to have a porter along just in case someone tires of carrying their pack, and a cook so that we can enjoy the local Peruvian cuisine. We’ll be doing the Salkantay trek for the first 3 days, and then joining up to the most well known “Inca Trail” for the remainder of the trip.

We’ll need to arrive in Cuzco on May 23rd to acclimate for a couple of days and then begin the trek on May 25th and end on May 30th. I will be staying in the area for two more days to do some personal side trips before returning to Cuzco, then Lima, but the 30th is the date when the group can break up. This trip is at the end of the rainy season so it WILL rain on us; I planned this purposely to avoid high tourist season.

If this sounds appealing to you, I’d like to hear from you! If you are seriously interested, I will send you the full itinerary. We can meet for coffee or a beer to see if personalities mesh enough to spend a week in the mountains together. :) I also look forward to finding training partners.
