TR --Cable at Banks Lake Jan 26

Top roped the Cable at Banks Lake on Saturday.  May be the most challanging TR'able climb in the state.  Very thin 150 foot column. Wonderful, challenging climbing.

Easy access, turn off from the road directly across from the climb.

The approach to the bolted anchor is a 80-100 foot exposed ledge.  Footing was great that day and the path is largely level and easy going.  For those wanting to rope up, there is a knee high rock pillar part way along that takes a triple and a (very) few opportunities for to sling stuff along the way. Whether the pillar would hold the type of leader fall which could occur was difficult to assess.

The bolted anchors are about 30 feet from cliff edge, well past personal anchor range. Be prepared to deal with organizing/throwing ropes at cliff edge while off personal anchor.  The rappel was pretty much a 150 ft free rap, the ledge overhangs the ice column. We used cow tails rapping an 9mm and 8mm ropes and it worked fine.

Top roping with 400 feet of rope played out is something.  People pay big bucks for that kind of bunge cord experience.

60 meter ropes work but just barely.  Using at least 1  70 m would give more options for the belayer.  We used a 60 from the climber and two 70 twins to the belayer and that worked fine.
