Johnstone Strait/Broughton Archipelagoes
SK IV+ Sat - Sat 7/28 - 8/4
Catch the first Anacortes/Sidney BC ferry (7:45), drive to
either Telegraph Cove or Naka Creek, setup camp for the night and
prepare for an early Sunday morning crossing of Johnstone Strait, then
wander around in the islands for the next 7 days with no specific
destination in mind. We will be breaking camp each day.
Your paddling fitness needs to be able to deal with a 3
knot pace for 3 hours, and up to 25nm/day, although it will usually be
13-15nm. A wet-suit is required, as is strong bracing skills, ability to cross eddy lines with ease, and a
knowledge of assisted rescues. You should have the ability to deal with
changing situations, bad weather, 3 ft waves, & 30 knot winds. You
will need to be flexible and able to function 100% as a group. You must
have prior experience with overnight paddling trips.
