I started hiking and backpacking when I moved to Seattle in 1997.
After several years, I decided that I wanted to reach "those other,
cool looking" peaks too. I started climbing in 2004 not realizing how
much one must learn to be safe in the outdoors. But the more I climbed,
the more enthusiastic I became; I'm trying to get out on as many
weekends as possible. Since I joined the Mountaineers, I found many new
friends and had great adventures.
Mountaineers Leader since 2006
Favorite Washington Climbs: Forbidden - rock, Eldorado – glacier, Fissile – alpine ice
Climbing Style: I like rock, glacier, ice climbs, and trips
that involve ski approaches. Last year I started dabbling with aid
climbing but I'm still a beginner at it. I actively seek opportunities
to climb (alpine style) in Europe and South America. My preferred pace
is "medium" but steady trying to be efficient in transitions.
Favorite Beverage: Glühwein (http://allrecipes.com/recipe/gluehwein/detail.aspx)
Other Outdoor Activities: Backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, scuba diving (warm water preferred)

Personal Information: I am originally from Austria but have
lived in the US since '93. I get to visit my family at least once a
year and sometimes can take a short “detour" to Austria on business
trips. At home I anticipate every whim of my 3 cats Clio, Alex, Jasmin;
in return they don't seem to mind too much that I'm gone most weekends
on climbing trips.
