Prior to moving to Seattle in 2002- most of my outdoor activities centered on hiking, backpacking, and skiing. I found myself continuously pushing to get farther and higher up into the wilderness; outings into the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, the Whites, and eventually a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail contributed to the desire to take things “to another level.” My move to Seattle was partially motivated to begin mountaineering, and since then it’s opened up opportunities for which I’m continuously thankful for.

Mountaineers Climb Leader since 2006
Climbing Style
While I thoroughly enjoy all types of climbing: glacier, alpine ice, sport and trad cragging, rock- my preference is for anything on snow, especially trips with ski approaches. In general I try not to repeat routes and try to climb in areas less-populated. My preferred pace is moderate with efficient starts and transitions; this results in more-generous breaks on the approach and summit to enjoy the scenery.
Memorable Climbs (so far…)
Glacier Peak via Gerdine/ Cool Glaciers
Joffrey and surroundings
Longs Peak via the Keyhole (Colorado)
Mt Garibaldi via NE Face
Mt Rainier via Kautz Glacier
Mt Shasta via Hotlum-Bolum Glaciers
Climbing Philosophy
Stay safe in the backcountry and having fun. Those whom I climb with tend to be in good physical condition, even-tempered, and technically competent. I aim to involve all with trip decisions, as everyone shares responsibility in maintaining group safety and achieving the outing’s objective; as such I expect everyone to be engaged and properly prepared for the climb.
